I decided it was about time I tried to do something cool to a sword. I had a good look about for a tutorial I thought I would have a chance at doing and found:

Ah yes, thanks for the link Esty :) I went with the 'magma looking thing as it seemed to fit the old school feel better. I think I agree with your main point however, subtle is something I need to work on ;)
